Line 2 - Evolutionary Ecology.

This line of research originates from functional ecology and the comparative method to address the influence of biotic and abiotic factors in the evolution of species co-occurring at a given site or in a given habitat. Main current topics of interest are:

Phenotypic plasticity of woody seedlings from the Mediterranean (Quercus sp.) and from the tropics (Psychotria sp.). Plasticity of the former was lower than that of the latter. The comparison within each habitat also reaveled that adversity limited the extent of plasticity.

Phenotypic plasticity as a key trait for vascular plants in changing environments.

Genetic and phenotypic variability, causes and implications.

Light as an evolutionary factor.

Functional convergente and functional types in plants.

  Functional traits of invasive species.

Scaling up from the individual to the population and the community.
